“Stay gold, Ponyboy.”
Angelina Jolie revealed that she and her 16-year-old daughter, Vivienne, got matching tattoos after working together on “The Outsiders” Broadway show.
“I got ‘Stay Gold’ with my daughter Viv during our time with ‘The Outsiders,'” Jolie, 49, said in the latest issue of CR Fashion Book. “It means so much to us separately and together.”
She added that she shares a bird tattoo with some of her other children, calling it “personal” to them.
Jolie first showed off the new ink at the premiere of the Broadway show in April.
In photos, “Stay Gold” is written in a red script font on her inner arm. It’s unclear if Vivienne got the tattoo in the same spot or somewhere else.
Jolie — who produced “The Outsiders,” which was based off S.E. Hinton’s 1967 book of the same name — revealed in August 2023 that she hired her daughter as her assistant for the show.
“Viv reminds me of my mother in that she isn’t focused on being the center of attention but in being a support to other creatives,” she said at the time. “She’s very thoughtful and serious about theatre and working hard to best understand how to contribute.”
She later praised her daughter’s work during the show’s press tour, calling her a “wise little greaser,” in reference to the characters in the musical.
Justin Levine, the musical’s co-book writer and score creator, at the time revealed he also got the “Stay gold” tattoo with the mother-daughter duo.
“Viv is one of the greatest humans I’ve ever met and somebody who is an observer and who sees people and sees the world in a way that, you know, I think, so much about this show is reconnecting with your inner child,” Levine said at the time.
Meanwhile, Jolie — who shares Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, Knox, 16, and Vivienne with ex-husband Brad Pitt — debuted her subtle bird tattoo on her chest at the 2024 Tony Awards in June.
The tattoo features a black outline of a swallow, which symbolizes loyalty and homecoming, as the bird’s migration patterns always lead them back to the same place.
Social media users, at the time, spotted matching ink on Shiloh.
Even though Jolie and Pitt split eight years ago, the couple continues to battle out details of their messy divorce.
Their kids appear to be taking sides as Vivienne dropped Pitt’s last name in “The Outsiders” playbill and Shiloh officially dropped the actor’s last name when she turned 18 in May.
