Brooke Mueller shared that she and her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, finally have a “fantastic” co-parenting relationship after years of drama.
The “Witchouse” actress brought up her former spouse while talking about their 15-year-old twin sons, Bob and Max, on the “Hollywood Raw” podcast Wednesday.
“My kids live with me full-time, but Charlie and I are neighbors. And so we talk daily, sometimes, oftentimes, multiple times a day. He comes over a lot. We go over there. So we have a fantastic relationship, and we have this pretty unique modern family over here where Charlie and I both live,” she said.
Mueller, 47, and Sheen, 59, tied the knot in 2008 and divorced in 2011. Shortly after their split, the twins were placed in the care of other family members while both parents battled addiction.
The real estate investor, who is now nine months sober, shared that her sons are currently doing “great.”
However, she admitted they were “really traumatized” after being taken care of by her parents, her brother and Sheen’s second ex-wife, Denise Richards, amid her battle with substance abuse.
“When they were younger and they were going through the time when they were taken from me and put in Denise’s care and then came back to me, and all of the chaos and everything that they had to go through, they were not OK,” she said.
Mueller and her boys eventually moved to Utah so the twins could participate in a “great neuropsychiatric program” and she could seek help for her addiction.
“They were really traumatized. They were very much affected,” she confessed.
Mueller explained that despite all the boys’s early childhood trauma, they have since “had time to get some structure and consistency.”
“They broke through any of their behaviors that were concerning. Completely mainstreamed. … They’re incredible kids,” she gushed.
Mueller also raved about her relationship with Richards, 53, and shared that the two “get along very, very well” after initially butting heads because of her drug issues.
“The reason why our relationship wasn’t good, it didn’t have to do with Denise; it was my addiction. And that’s why all these relationships I’ve had with Denise or Charlie or my mother or anyone, they’re great when I’m sober, but then you can sully it all up, unfortunately,” she explained.
Mueller reflected on the time Richards had custody of her sons, saying she admired the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum for “step[ping] up” and being “very helpful.”
Mueller and Richards were recently seen hanging out with their respective children in Malibu, Calif., while filming the latter’s new reality TV show, “Denise Richards and the Wild Things.”
