Lady Gaga is not caught in a “Bad Romance.”
The singer shared rare details in her Vogue cover story, published Thursday, about meeting and getting engaged to fiance Michael Polansky.
The Grammy winner’s mom, Cynthia Germanotta, first crossed paths with the businessman due to a “philanthropic overlap” and told Gaga, “I think I just met your husband.”
The songwriter recalled thinking, “I’m not ready to meet my husband!”
However, she went to Sean Parker’s September 2019 birthday party and “kept asking” about Polansky until they were finally introduced — and “talked for three hours.”
The entrepreneur shared his first impression with the magazine, gushing that he was “struck immediately by her warmth and openness.”
The pair talked on the phone for weeks before going on their first date, falling in love and quarantining together in Malibu, Calif., amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was really kind of special,” Gaga said. “I’d been so focused on my career since I was a teenager. And the gift of that time was that I got to completely focus on my relationship. I met this totally supportive, loving human being who wanted to get to know me — outside of Lady Gaga.”
Polansky agreed, adding, “We had this amazing chapter of a weird kind of normalcy that’s essential for any relationship to develop in a real way — taking walks, making coffee, hanging out with the dogs, reading books together.”
Gaga, who went on to praise her “smart and kind” partner who makes her “so happy,” revealed that Polansky proposed in April.
He got down on one knee after a day spent rock climbing.
Speculation swirled about the duo’s engagement that same month, with Gaga debuting a massive diamond ring while out in West Hollywood.
At the Paris Olympics in July, she referred to Polansky as her “fiance.”
A source told People at the time that the couple had been engaged for “several months” before Gaga’s confirmation.
The insider claimed, “The couple shared the happy news with family and close friends right away but wanted to keep the engagement private otherwis.”
The performer has been engaged twice before to actor Taylor Kinney and talent manager Christian Carino.
Gaga insisted to fans on Thursday that she and Polansky are “right for each other” despite their lives being “very different.”
She said, “I was in a really dark place. I struggled for, like, many years. … But everything started to change. Because I had a real friend who saw the ways in which I was unhappy and why. And he wasn’t afraid to truly hold my hand. And get to know me. On a very deep level.”
