Sofia Vergara wanted to hide her signature curves for her Netflix miniseries, “Griselda,” and went to great lengths to achieve her goal.
“I didn’t want the bouncing that is natural for Latin women to show. I would have to wrap myself so that my butt wouldn’t jiggle,” she explained to Variety in a profile released Thursday.
“I had to wear a really bad bra,” she added. “I had to cover my arms, because I have very skinny arms, and you don’t look threatening when you have this stupid little arm.”
Vergara, 53, portrayed Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in the project, which began streaming in January.
Though she wanted to hide her curves, the “Modern Family” alum said she felt the real-life Griselda had “some kind of sex appeal” she needed to get across without using her body.
“She was maybe not a Barbie doll, but the real Griselda Blanco had something,” she noted.
According to Variety, Vergara spent three hours per day in hair and makeup to transform into Blanco. Specifically, her makeup and prosthetics took an hour and a half to complete, while the second chunk of time was spent perfecting her wig and body makeup.
Vergara said her hair and makeup took “hours” while chatting with Kelly Clarkson in January — and seemed offended when the singer suggested her physical transformation was only a “slight” change from her usual look.
“It was a lot. They did a lot to me,” the “Hot Pursuit” actress pressed on. “It was teeth, it was wig, it was nose. It was plastic from here to here.”
In June, she opened up more about what it took to make the drama and revealed she shot her first-ever sex scene.
“I think I was worried that I was going to look horrific,” she said at a Netflix FYSEE event.
“I was like, ‘Where are they shooting me? The cellulite? From the side?’ Uh, I’m vain I guess. That one kept me awake, I think.”
Vergara’s comments about worrying about how her body would appear on camera came shortly after she shamelessly stated she would obtain any plastic surgery she felt necessary to maintain her youth.
“I’m going to do every plastic surgery that I can do when I’m ready,” she told Allure magazine in May.
In fact, she declared she would have “done stuff already” if she had more “downtime” within her busy schedule.
“I feel like you have to take advantage of everything that is out there,” Vergara said.
“I mean, if you care about aging. Nothing wrong if you don’t care about it.”
“It’s not the end of the world. But if you do, now there’s so much stuff out there.”
